About Steve
Steve Banks is a UK guitarist, composer, band leader, and session musician. He is passionate about education and has dedicated significant time to developing and refining clear communication, encouraging real expression, and fostering awareness.
Since 2007, Steve has designed and taught degree courses and workshops for individuals, groups, and ensembles across the UK. He has also prepared jazz students for undergraduate and post-graduate study at UK conservatoires.
In 2023, The Steve Banks Quintet released 'Emboldened' to enthusiastic critical acclaim, earning 5 stars and 'Album Of The Month' from BBC Music Magazine, along with 4 stars from UK Vibe. UK Vibe noted that "Banks brings a fresh voice to the world of jazz. An invigorating listening experience with clearly defined energy and character, there is a delight in its originality."
Steve has showcased his talents at numerous venues across the UK and Europe. Additional projects include recording and touring with Sara Colman's albums 'What We're Made Of' and 'Ink On A Pin,' where he contributed as a composer, co-composer, and arranger.
Since 2008, Steve has been a tutor in LMFL summer courses, teaching guitar and improvisation, and directing the jazz ensemble.
