About Madeleine
Professor Madeleine Mitchell, based at the Royal College of Music in London since 1994, is one of Britain’s most respected violinists. She has showcased her talents as a soloist and chamber musician in 50 countries, covering a diverse repertoire. Additionally, Mitchell is highly sought after as a teacher, offering master classes to students of all ages worldwide. Notably, she was a finalist in the European Women of Achievement Awards and earned a Royal Philharmonic Society Award for her innovative project connecting art and music on film with the London Chamber Ensemble, an ensemble she founded and directs.
Mitchell, a scholar at the Royal College of Music, furthered her studies by obtaining a master’s degree in New York, where she studied at the Eastman and Juilliard Schools.
Renowned for her recitals and imaginative programming, Mitchell has graced prestigious venues such as London’s Southbank Centre and Wigmore Hall. Her performances have been broadcast on the BBC, as well as on TV and radio in Australia, the Far East, Europe, USA, and South Africa. She proudly represented Britain in festivals across the UK, New York, Canberra, Rome, and Seoul, while also extensively touring for the British Council. Notably, Mitchell has collaborated on concertos with major London Orchestras, as well as with the St Petersburg Philharmonic, Czech and Polish Radio Symphony, Wurttemberg, and Munich Chamber.
Mitchell's acclaimed discography, nominated for Grammy and BBC Music Awards, features works composed for her by renowned artists. This includes the popular 'Violin Songs,' several albums of British music, and the widely recommended Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time. In 2023, Naxos released her album 'Violin Conversations.'
For over a decade, Madeleine has been a regular tutor on LMFL courses in the UK and Europe.
